spring break spelled in sand
If you’re looking for a hidden gem vacation spot this spring, just take a look at the beautiful state of North Carolina. Whether you’re looking for a family vacation, a girl’s trip, or a couple’s getaway, NC has something for you. If you just can’t wait to shake off that winter snow and spend some healthy time outdoors, from east to west you’ll find mountains, trails, beaches, and bustling cities all with plenty to help you enjoy the sunshine.

Charlotte

Chances are, when you think of North Carolina, you think of Charlotte. Fly straight into Douglas International Airport to enjoy some of the nation’s top museums, exciting amusement parks, and stunning natural elements. For a sampling of rare spring foliage, stop into the University of North Carolina Charlotte’s Botanical Gardens, then take a quick 30-minute drive north to Lake Norman to spend some time outdoors. There you’ll find the state’s largest artificial lake where you can enjoy time on the water in kayaks, canoes, and rented boats. Back in the city, you’ll find five-star dining and family-friendly breweries like Olde Mecklenburg and NoDa. You’ll never be bored in the city whose motto is, “Charlotte’s got a lot!”

Grandfather Mountain

If the grey winter has dulled your imagination, find new inspiration at Grandfather Mountain. Spend a quiet day hiking by yourself or with a naturalist as your guide. For those without a fear of heights, take a serene walk to the Mile High Swinging Bridge, America’s highest suspension footbridge. The 360-degree views will take your breath away. When you’re ready for some indoor time, stop by the Grandfather Mountain Nature Museum to see local minerals, gems, birds, and exhibits about early explorers. Nature lovers will want to visit this natural wonder again and again.

Nags Head Beach

For a more traditional Southern spring break, North Carolina has no shortage of dazzling beaches. One of our favorites is Nags Head Beach, best known for Jockey’s Ridge State Park where you can find the tallest living sand dune on the Atlantic coast. You’ll enjoy strolling down the boardwalk, exploring nature trails, and relaxing on the beautiful beaches.

Highlands

Couples shouldn’t miss the town of Highlands, North Carolina for an intimate time away. Hike to Lake Glenville where you can see three waterfalls feeding into the serene water, then enjoy a couples’ spa treatment before heading to a fine-dining meal at Madison’s or Ristorante Paoletti. End every day in the great outdoors, watching the sunset from the Whiteside Mountain Trail or Sunset Rock. This getaway is a reset from daily life.
A great Southern getaway may just be a few states away. While others are flocking to an island vacation, you’ll be enjoying world-class amenities with minimal travel time. North Carolina will have you falling in love with the Southern charm they’re famous for. Relax in a spa, hike through the mountains, or tan on a beach; you’ll find something perfect for everyone in your group. We can’t wait to see you this spring in NC!
